Icon411 brought a night full of laughter to Downingtown last month, as several comedians from near and far took the stage at The Borough Downingtown for their first ever Friendsgiving Comedy Show.
It was a packed house upstairs at The Borough, with audience members enjoying delicious, elevated pub fare, tasty drinks, and, of course, the electric, legendary atmosphere.
Fresh off their grand opening and ribbon cutting, The Borough proved once again it’s more than a restaurant… it’s the place where Downingtown comes alive and is shaping up to be one of the biggest entertainment hubs in the area.
Hosted by the incomparable Anissa “Ms. Darkchild” Bane, the show featured a powerhouse lineup including headliner Frank Vignola, feature Ashley Pontius, and opener Toogie Jackson, each delivering their own flavor of high-octane humor.
“Ms. Darkchild” ignited the crowd from the moment she hit the stage. Armed with her signature rapid-fire charm, she warmed the room with laughs, crowd-pleasing riffs, and a sharp, conversational style that kept the audience loud, loose, and ready for the night ahead.
Her banter and larger-than-life stage presence created the perfect spark, transforming the already buzzing restaurant into a full-on comedy arena.
Opener Toogie Jackson set the tone early, delivering the kind of dark, razor-sharp humor he’s known for in legendary rooms like The Laugh Factory and The Improv. His set walked the perfect line between shocking and playful, jolting the crowd to attention while tossing barbs with a grin that let everyone know they were in on the joke. Jackson’s banter ricocheted through the room, daring the audience not to laugh.
Next up, Maryland-born comic Ashley Pontius brought a tidal wave of energy with relatable storytelling, self-aware sass, and no-holds-barred honesty. Referencing the modern dating world for a millennial woman, there were comedic (and maybe a few sympathetic) laughs around the room.
Her set rode the line between outrageous and endearing, giving the audience big laughs and even bigger moments of “Did she really just say that?”
Closing out the night was veteran comic Frank Vignola, whose career spans Comedy Central, Amazon Prime, SiriusXM, as well as international touring. Vignola showcased masterful crowd work, razor-sharp timing, and the ease of someone who has spent decades perfecting the craft.
Early in his set, he delivered a joke that instantly became a crowd favorite:
“This is a pretty little town, isn’t it? Downingtown looks like a movie set for a Hallmark Christmas movie. I feel like I should be throwing snowballs and trying to save the local ice rink.”
The line brought the house down, resonating with locals who know all too well the town’s postcard-perfect charm.
From riffs about small Pennsylvania towns to memories from his career in New York and beyond, Vignola kept the audience laughing nonstop, showcasing why he remains a respected staple in the comedy world. He poked fun at his aging self, telling lively stories about his time stuck on a cruise and how his career has brought him somewhere off US-322 on a Thursday night.
Icon411 and The Borough continue to shape their place in Downingtown. Feeling jealous that you missed this star-studded lineup? Don’t worry — we have word that another comedy show may be in the works.
