Blue Moon Florist will celebrate 30 years in business in 2025. Ami Trost, a Downingtown native, started the business in 1995.
Trost’s passion for the floral industry started young. At the age of 15, she got her first after school job at the Downingtown Farmers’ Market. While working with a small, family-owned shop, she gained valuable experience. From then on, Trost knew she wanted to own and operate her own flower and gift shop, which she did at 24 years old.
The floral business has come along way since 1995. “We have gone from handwriting order to a diverse POS system,” Trost explained. The team uses an intricate software to track their wedding estimates, order, and inventory. A majority of Blue Moon Florist delivery trucks are electric, shifting away from gas fleets.
The biggest change, however, came from the floral industry at large. Trost noted that global flower production and sourcing of products has grown exponentially. “We have seen more floral types and varieties come to market.” Local Pennsylvania flower farms have also contributed the flower business. Blue Moon Florist has grown to employ 15 people.
Flowers for All of Life’s Occasions
Blue Moon Florist is a full-service florist on Horseshoe Pike, offering daily deliveries Monday through Saturday. “We offer a wide range of fresh cut flowers, handmade styled arrangements, indoor year-round plants, and seasonal outdoor plants.” said Trost.
As for their event services, Blue Moon designs complete wedding florals, funeral arrangements, and has a large selection for any of life’s occasions, such as graduations or birthdays. Trost and her incredible team provides holiday decorating services and party and event services. Besides their floral services, the store also includes a home décor and gift shop, complete with plants, candles, jewelry, and more.
“Our mission is to provide the most beautiful flowers and plants for all of life’s occasions, allowing our customers to express themselves through our creations.” said Trost. “We are committed to giving our customers the best service, value, and overall experience with our excellent staff and products; every day.”
Some of their most popular selections are their “Happy Day” and “Designer’s Choice” arrangements.
“When it comes to ur fresh creations, our customers not only seek beauty, but they want the freshest, longest lasting and unique flowers and designs.” explained Trost.
The team is constantly working on new, creative arrangements, as well as “tried and true” selections that are always a popular pick. Aside from flowers, Blue Moon also offers an entire plant department, including orchid plants, garden baskets, and succulents. Seasonal fruit and gourmet baskets are also available for holiday and sympathy gifts.

What’s an Event Without Florals?
Planning events, especially weddings, can be incredibly stressful. Blue Moon Florist is there for their clients every step of the way. Every wedding couple is able to have a consultation with Trost and her team. Clients are walked through the entire process, including inspiration and design, and styling and colors that best suit for their theme, budget, and season. With Blue Moon Florist, customers can easily check florals off their list.
“We provide custom pieces and only what the couple needs or wants with no minimum requirements.” Trost said.
For other parties and corporate events, Trost creates stunning custom designs, specifically crafted for the occasion and client. The arrangements will be delivered and set up right on time. Clients won’t even have to lift a finger!
For funeral tributes, Blue Moon welcomes family members who prefer to meet in person and make selections for their lost loved one. Another option is for those grieving to choose arrangements online from their comfort of their home, while they navigate this trying time.
Every bouquet, arrangement, and design is uniquely curated by the Blue Moon Florist team. You won’t find any pre-made selections or bunches of flowers in their work.
“Our talented and experienced design team is constantly coming up with new arrangements and seasonal designs to delight our customers,” Trost said. “Everything we do is custom made. We utilize flowers from around the corner and around the glove to bring beauty to people’s lives on a daily basis.
Other events that Blue Moon Florist have worked on are births, birthdays, proms, recitals, retirement parties, and bridal showers. The team truly does it all – from life’s smallest to biggest moments, they are there!
More than Just Flowers
Blue Moon Florist works with a wide range of seasonal flowers every single day, sourcing 25-50 different varieties depending on the season. Year-round flowers are sourced globally, hailing from a large selection of places, including North America, South America, Europe, Israel, and more. Some of their year-round florals are sunflowers, hydrangeas, roses, snap dragons, and delphinium.
Naturally grown, seasonal blooms have the team’s heart, since there’s a limited time each year to utilize them. Some of their favorite seasonal blooms are tulips, peonies, poppies, and sweet peas.
The business is about more than just flowers.
“We have a 5,000 square foot showroom that we use to display seasonal and everyday home décor ware, kitchen and barware, faux botanicals, vases, wreaths, candles and holders, jewelry, linens, teams, and so much more!” Trost said.
With their online store, as well as their brick and mortar location, the shop is able to serve clients 24/7. Blue Moon even offers same day, last minute delivery for those in need of it, as well as rapid pick-up orders. According to Trost, “no” is not in her vocabulary.
“We are a local source you can physically come to if you need a quick gift or pick-me-up, like a local chocolate treat.” she said. “We have also provided last minute wedding requests and have designed party centerpieces with a day’s notice.”
As the Business Grows, Their Commitment to Community Strengthens
As the business grows, Blue Moon Florist’s commitment to the Downingtown and surrounding community remains, growing stronger through the years.
“2025 marks our 30th anniversary of providing high quality, custom florals to the Chester County community and beyond. We are proud of the work we have done to allow our customers to express themselves through flowers over the past three decades.”
Blue Moon Florist is honored to have received several recognitions over the years, including The Best of the Main Line, March of Dimes Women of Achievement Award in Business, and Business of the Year by Exton Chamber of Commerce.
“It’s always an honor to be recognized by the community, but we are most proud of what we have been able to give back.” Trost said.
Supporting the local community became, and remains, an important part of the business.
“We have always been proud supporters of our community over the past three decades.” Trost explained. We have volunteered or participated in some way with the March of Dimes, United Way, and YMCA.”
Blue Moon Florist has also served on the boards of the local Chambers of Commerce, donated to the Downingtown and Honey Brook libraries, local food pantries, and contributed to numerous school and community fundraisers.
“We are proud and honored to support the community we serve and are so grateful to the community for supporting us over years.” said Trost.

When she’s not working, Ami Trost enjoys long walks with her dogs, spending quality time with my family, game nights, antiquing, skiing, and cooking.
