Downingtown Area School District (DASD) students recently came together to help combat childhood cancer. At the Annual Cam-A-Thon on April 4, which is an overnight fundraiser, the students raised a whopping $45,766.41 that will be donated to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The nonprofit organization is instrumental in aiding families affected by childhood cancer diagnoses.
Cam-A-Thon took place on Friday, April 4 to Saturday, April 5, lasting from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM. The event was a lively affair, including activities such as dancing, sports tournaments, Zumba workouts, and games. The community support throughout the room was palpable, with everyone coming together for a common goal.
Cam-A-Thon is particularly special to DASD, as it’s held in memory of former student Cameron Evans. Evans tragically passed away in 2011 from leukemia. During that time, his friends and classmates rallied around him, launching a fundraising campaign called Cure4Cam. The children made hundreds of cards and bracelets to keep Evans’ spirit up during treatment. Afterwards, Cure4Cam Foundation was created to honor his life.
In the years following, the foundation has continuously partnered with Alex’s Lemonade Stand to support their initiatives; cancer research, cancer awareness, and support for families and loved ones.
Cam-A-Thon ís a student-organized fundraiser, which Downingtown Area School District and the surrounding community can be proud of!
