Downingtown Area School District Provides Workshop for Loved Ones with Special Needs

Mar 19, 2025 | 19335, Events

Downingtown Area School District, in partnership with West Chester Area School District, is urging local families with special needs loved ones to look ahead. Planning for the future is important for every individual, but especially those who live with a disability.

The workshop, entitled ‘Special Needs Planning for Your Loved One with a Disability,’ is an informative and educational experience, allowing attendees to leave feeling confident in their decision-making.

Families with children and other dependents and relatives with special needs face serious questions and roadblocks when it comes to preparing for their loved one’s future well-being. No matter the age or type of disability, these decisions can’t be made lightly.

Special needs financial and estate planning differs from traditional planning. It’s important to have all the information. That’s why Downingtown Area School District has the goal to “make sure attendees learn the importance of integrating all the necessary pieces into one cohesive plan, so the vision they have for their child’s life can become a reality, whether they are here or not.”

Don’t leave your loved one behind unprepared.

This workshop will cover topics, such as basic estate planning documents, special needs trusts (SNTs), guardianship vs. power of attorney, ABLE accounts, tax planning considerations, funding strategies, and more!

Pat Bergmaier, ChSNC, CFP from 1847 Financial and Randy Hope Steen, Esq. from The Law Office of Randy Hope Steen, LTD. will be hosting ‘Special Needs Planning for Your Loved One with a Disability.’
